The death toll after a landslide at a dump in Uganda's capital Kampala rose on Sunday. At least 18 people have been confirmed dead, including at least two children, when the landfill masses at the Kiteezi dump collapsed.
Local media report that many people and their homes have been affected by the garbage landslide from the dump, which occurred on Saturday.
The landslide was partly caused by heavy rainfall, but authorities and residents in the area have long warned of the acute danger of the garbage mountain engulfing the surroundings.
Among them was Kampala's mayor Erias Lukwago, who issued a warning in January.
President Yoweri Museveni has ordered military special forces to assist in the rescue efforts.
The authorities are simultaneously trying to ensure that the rest of the area is stable.
