Ikea and the company's owner Ingka Group are reporting sales figures for the 12-month period from September 1 to August 31. The full annual report will be released in November, but the sales figures provide an indication of how the year has developed.

Sales in Sweden amounted to 17.6 billion kronor, a decrease of 7.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

"This has been a year when we have been challenged, but where we have again experienced the power and strength of our vision, our community, and our entrepreneurship," says Emily Birkin, Country Manager for Ikea Sweden, in a press release.

The number of physical visits to the chain's Swedish stores was 35.3 million, compared to 35 million the previous year. However, when the number of website visits is included, there has been a clear decrease (149 million compared to 164 million visitors).

The company is now trying to find new ways and store formats to reach its customers.

"We know that customers today want to meet us in more and new ways. We will continue to invest in new formats and new ways to meet our customers," says Emily Birkin.

The Ingka Group as a whole is also reporting a sales decline of 5 percent, which means a total figure of 39.6 billion euro, approximately 450 billion Swedish kronor.
