Up in Japan – down in China

It was up on the stock exchange in Tokyo after a few hours of trading on Wednesday, a mood created by a weakened Japanese currency and a strong rise on Nasdaq in New York. The Nikkei 225 index was up 1.2 percent and Topix up 1.1 percent.

In China, it was minus, with the composite index in Shanghai and Shenzhen down 0.9 and 0.4 percent, respectively. In Hong Kong, the fall was larger, down 1.7 percent for Hang Seng.

In South Korea, Kospi was down 0.9 percent.
