The jubilation, dancing and hugging is due to the fact that pre-election measurements indicated that the Centre Party was close to the decisive four-per-cent threshold. According to the preliminary election result, the party has indeed fallen back by 3.6 percentage points and receives 7.2 per cent. However, this is still enough for the party to retain its two seats in parliament.
As party leader, Muharrem Demirok has had a rollercoaster ride; he is still relatively unknown and the EU election has been described as decisive for the future.
