The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) is warning of very strong winds in southwestern Sweden. Gusts of 20-25 meters per second can occur.

It's a good idea to secure or remove loose objects in the garden, says meteorologist Torbjörn Simann.

The SMHI is warning of very strong gusts of wind from Gothenburg and northwards, along the west coast, in the Väner region, and a bit into Värmland. Yellow warnings are also in place over almost the entire Baltic Sea, from the southernmost part of Öland and northwards.

Västtrafik has cancelled several train departures due to the bad weather. This includes, among other routes, Uddevalla-Borås-Varberg and Strömstad-Gothenburg.

Hundreds of households have been affected by power outages of varying lengths during the day, partly due to trees falling on power lines.

We have a fairly intense low-pressure system now that's causing these winds. It will be windy in large parts of the country, but not as strong as in the warning areas. There will be fresh or strong gusts of wind in all of Götaland, all of Svealand, and a bit up along the Norrland coast, says Torbjörn Simann, meteorologist at the SMHI.

Risk of storm

Gusts of 20 meters per second can occur, and on the west coast, it can blow up to storm strength – with winds of up to 25 meters per second.

It's a good idea to secure or remove loose objects in the garden, such as trampolines and garden furniture. There may also be some disruptions with tree felling on roads, and disruptions to the power grid, he says.

As a result of the bad weather, a house caught fire after a lightning strike on Saturday evening in Gislaved in Jönköping County. No one was injured, but the property suffered significant damage, according to the police website. The Ironman competition in Jönköping also had to shorten the swimming distance on Sunday due to high waves, writes SVT.

A fair amount of rain is also expected to pass over Götaland, Svealand, and up over Norrland.

Towards the afternoon, the winds will increase somewhat and decrease fairly quickly in the evening.
