Åkesson on the wedding guest: "Didn't know about"

One of the guests at Jimmie Åkesson's (SD) wedding last weekend is the leader of a local motorcycle club that, according to Expressen, has been identified as part of the criminal environment in Sweden. "An honest mistake", Åkesson comments now on X.

The invitation has been strongly criticized, among other things, the Social Democrats have planned to call the Security Service to the Riksdag's Justice Committee to get answers about the security arrangements, as Expressen has previously reported.

Now the party leader is commenting on the event on X.

"The short answer is that my wife and I did not know about these connections," he writes on the platform.

Hundreds of people attended the wedding, according to Åkesson himself around 800, including Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation Ebba Busch (KD).

According to Åkesson, both the Security Service and the police were informed about the wedding, but did not have any influence over the guest list.

"The person in question has been married to an old friend and colleague for a few years, someone I've known for 25 years and who was very close to me during a period in my life," Åkesson continues to write on X.

The man in question, he says, he knows superficially, someone he has met at a few events.

"If it turns out that a guest at my wedding really has connections to gang crime, then it's an extremely unfortunate and frankly clumsy mistake, which I sincerely regret."
