A snowstorm is moving in over large parts of northern Norrland's inland on Saturday afternoon. SMHI has issued a yellow warning for snowfall from Vilhelmina in the south to Gällivare in the north.
This is the first real snowfall in the area, many people do not have winter tires and are not fully prepared, says Kristin Holmberg, meteorologist at SMHI.
In total, up to 10-15 centimeters of snow may fall. Above all, it is the southern parts of the area that may be affected.
The largest amounts are expected to come in Vilhelmina, Storuman, Malå, Norsjö, and Arvidsjaur, says Kristin Holmberg.
Residents in the snow-affected areas are advised not to venture out unnecessarily and to be cautious on the roads.
Traffic may slow down due to slippery roads, snowmud, and poor visibility. There may also be limited accessibility on roads if snow clearing has not been done or due to traffic accidents, for example.
The yellow warning applies until 2 pm on Sunday.
SMHI has three levels of weather warnings:
Yellow warning: Consequences for society, some risks for the general public.
Orange warning: Serious consequences for society, danger for the general public.
Red warning: Very serious consequences for society, great danger for the general public.
