Hockeyallsvenska Tingsryd is in economic crisis.
The club needs to bring in 2.5 million kronor within a week to avoid forced relegation and bankruptcy.
I believe it will work, we cannot think of anything else right now. We are betting on it succeeding and the licensing board approving our action plan. It is the absolutely most pressing issue right now, to secure guarantees, says Jan Pyrell, chairman of Tingsryd, to Smålandsposten.
On Tuesday evening, the club itself went out on social media and told about the situation.
Tingsryd applied for a control year before the 2024-25 season, which means the club should be able to report its own capital of 10 per cent of the turnover next spring. In Tingsryd's case, it is about approximately 2.5 million kronor.
However, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's licensing board rejected the application for a control year.
Instead, the licensing board set the requirement that Tingsryd must present an acceptable action plan by 3 July, which should include capital coverage guarantees of 2.5 million kronor.
If Tingsryd fails to do so, the club will be relegated to Division 1.
"Then the company will not survive, according to the board's assessment", writes Tingsryd in the information where they ask for economic help.
So far, Tingsryd has received guarantees totalling 300,000 kronor.
The news came just hours after star defender Oliver Ekman-Larsson, 32, won the Stanley Cup with Florida.
He has Tingsryd as his parent club and will bring the Stanley Cup trophy to the Småland hockey nest this summer.
The question is whether the club will still exist then.
