Eslöv coach on Möregårdh in the Olympic Games: "Magical"

Truls Möregårdh has made a historic achievement during the Olympic Games in Paris with the first medal in table tennis in 24 years. Now he is being hailed by coach Peter Andersson from his home club in Eslöv. One cannot say more than that it is magical, completely incredible, he says to TT.

In the final match against the Chinese player Fan Zhendong, it was not enough all the way, but the Swedish star player is still going home with a silver medal.

Truls makes an enormously good effort, he does everything right, but he meets an opponent who is supernatural, says Peter Andersson, coach in Truls Möregårdh's home club, Eslövs AI BTK, to TT.

Andersson praises the young table tennis player's efforts during the Olympic Games.

One cannot say more than that it is magical, completely incredible. One should not forget that he is 22 years old and has several Olympic Games ahead of him. There will be more chances.

Naturally, he is a bit disappointed right now, but when it has sunk in, I know that he will be extremely pleased.

Standing ovations

On the newly crowned Olympic medalist's home ground in Eslöv, a large crowd gathered to follow the match on a big screen.

It was a bloody pressure, completely packed, people came from all over Skåne, I think. There was an enormous atmosphere here and they gave Truls a standing ovation after the match. It was awesome, says Andersson.

For the club, new training sessions await directly on Monday morning, and the celebration of Möregårdh is also being planned.

It will be a proper reception, naturally, he is worth everything after this effort.

Putting Eslöv on the map

Eslöv Municipality is also participating in the planning of Möregårdh's reception. Later in the week, the municipality will announce how the successes will be celebrated with the main person present.

Can Eslöv expect a new Truls Square or even a statue?

It is customary not to make statues of living people, but we will of course acknowledge Truls, says Municipal Councilor Johan Andersson (S).

The table tennis player is, however, not the only one from Eslöv who has been noticed during the Olympic Games. The golfer Ludvig Åberg is also a big profile.

There are many athletes who put Eslöv on the map and are big role models for young people. It means a lot, says Johan Andersson.
