Explosions were heard late on Saturday evening in central and eastern parts of Kiev. Sirens sounded in the capital and at least two flashes of light could be seen against the night sky, report AFP's journalists who are on the scene.
According to Ukraine's air force, two Russian missiles were fired at the city.
"The air defense system has been activated in Kiev. Stay in the shelters!", writes Kiev's mayor Vitalij Klytjko on Telegram.
Five more regions in Ukraine have been attacked by drones, according to the country's air force. There are still no reports of possible casualties.
