In the Rostov region in southern Russia, authorities are struggling for the third day in a row to put out a fire at an oil depot.

According to Russian state media, around 500 firefighters are involved in the extinguishing work. 41 of them have received care for fire-related injuries, writes the Russian state-owned news agency Tass.

The fire broke out when the oil depot was hit by Ukrainian drones and the area that is burning corresponds to approximately two football pitches.

The Ukrainian army's general staff has taken responsibility for the attack on the oil depot, which they claim is a way to "undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation".

The attack on the oil depot takes place in the light of the ongoing Ukrainian offensive on Russian territory, where Ukraine claims to have taken control of several Russian areas.

In recent months, Ukraine has expanded its attacks on Russia.
