Several airlines are stopping flights to and from Lebanon's capital Beirut, including Air France-KLM and German Lufthansa.

Air France-KLM is stopping all flights on Monday and Tuesday "due to the security situation", according to the company's spokesperson.

Lufthansa is stopping all departures for a week, until August 5.

Low-cost carrier Transavia is also announcing that it is stopping flights to and from Beirut.

The stop comes as tensions are increasing between Israel and Lebanon after the attack on the Golan Heights, where at least twelve children and young people were killed.

Israeli ministers have stepped up their rhetoric against the Islamist group Hezbollah and the concern for escalation in the region is great.

The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has been urging all Swedes in Lebanon to leave the country since October 2023. On Sunday, Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (The Moderate Party) reminded on X not to travel to the country.

"I have said it several times and I say it again: it is necessary for Swedish citizens to leave Lebanon or refrain from traveling to the country in question. Please heed this clear appeal from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.", writes the Foreign Minister on X.
