The risk of a full-scale war between primarily the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah and Israel has led several countries to urge travelers to leave Lebanon. The escalation is taking place in light of the Gaza War and the killing of Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniya in Iran's capital Tehran last week.

Now France is calling its citizens home.

"Due to the tense and unpredictable security situation, we once again urge French citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible", it says in the Foreign Ministry's new travel advisory.

Sweden is also advising against travel to the region and urging travelers to leave Lebanon.

Denmark announced earlier in the weekend that the country is keeping its embassy in Beirut open, but is urging its citizens to leave.
