Police in the city of Moers in western Germany opened fire on a man who threatened and harassed passers-by on a street on Tuesday.
When the police tried to apprehend the man, he attacked them with two knives, whereupon the police shot him. The man's life could not be saved afterwards. No one else is reported to have been injured in connection with the incident.
Moers, outside Duisburg, is located barely five miles from Solingen, where a man killed three people and injured several others on Friday.
The suspected perpetrator there has been detained, suspected of, among other things, participating in a terrorist organization.
