The Star's Message: Ending National Team Career

It became 59 international matches, a World Championship bronze and an Olympic Games silver. But now it's over for Hanna Glas in the national football team. It was not an easy decision, I'm extremely proud, says the defender to SVT.

Glass career has been marked by cruciate ligament injuries and she made her comeback in the national team as recently as July after 717 days.

She made her debut in the national team in 2017, but now it's over for the 31-year-old who plays in Seattle in the American league.

No one has probably come back to the elite after four cruciate ligament injuries and especially after the last one, the decision has grown. It's during the last two years that I've been thinking about this, but now it's a good time and timing to maybe also let new players through, she says.

She says that her body is doing well right now, but she wants to spare her body and take care of it.

Peter Gerhardsson was the one who brought Glass into the A-national team as a newly appointed national team captain in 2017.

When we started this, she had come back from a cruciate ligament injury. She was a player who was very skilled in the defensive work but also a player who could go very offensively, overlap and even go inside. When she was healthy and whole, she was always there and played, and mostly 90 minutes. A very skilled player, says Gerhardsson.

Corrected: An earlier version had the wrong month for Glass's comeback and the wrong number of national team matches.

Born: April 16, 1993 (31 years old).

Position: Defender.

Clubs as senior: Sundsvalls DFF, Sunnanå, Umeå IK, Eskilstuna United, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern München, Kansas City Current, Seattle Reign.

National team matches/goals: 59/1.

Top national team merits: World Championship bronze 2019, Olympic Games silver 2021.
