The last few nights have been relatively calm. However, the unrest continues at an unchanged level in Northern Ireland. Starmer held another crisis meeting with top ministers and police chiefs late on Thursday.

The riots in the UK are the largest in over ten years. Nearly 500 people have been arrested in several cities in connection with the unrest, according to the police.

On Friday, a 28-year-old man in Leeds in northern England was sentenced for posting on Facebook "intended to incite racial hatred". The man, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to 20 months in prison, the first conviction related to the riots.

The riots were triggered by a knife attack in which three girls between six and nine years old were killed. Disinformation after the incident has led to extensive right-wing extremist riots and also counter-demonstrations.

Counter-demonstrations are planned in several locations around the country on Saturday.
