Halfvarsson: "Would say things in good faith"

Calle Halfvarsson has a clear plan after his cross-country skiing career. He wants to become an expert commentator on TV. I would get a better atmosphere and competence in sports. The level could go up, he says.

Calle Halfvarsson, 35, plans to retire after the World Championship in Falun 2027. At the same arena where he made his World Cup debut in 2009.

After that, he wants to work in TV.

After my career, I would be quite good as a TV commentator or expert commentator, says Halfvarsson, who has opinions on how ski competitions are commented on TV:

You see technical things and can explain to the viewers what's happening during the race. Sometimes it's too low a level.

Dare to Criticize

Halfvarsson wouldn't hesitate to criticize old ski colleagues:

I dare to, but I wouldn't say anything just to be mean, but explain what the skier needs to work on, technique and tactical choices. I would say things in good faith and not offend anyone.

SVT's Jacob Hård and Anders Blomquist are his TV favorites in skiing.

You still get the best skiing feeling from listening to them. They are the most comfortable to listen to, says Halfvarsson.

Chris Härenstam (SVT), Glenn Strömberg (SVT/Viaplay) and Jonas Karlsson (Discovery) are three other favorites.

It's important with the voice. It's maybe terrible to say that, but some don't have the comfortable voice to listen to. It doesn't matter how knowledgeable they are if they are annoying to listen to.

Have you received an offer to become a TV commentator?

No, it would be strange if they ask me while I'm still active.

Wants to Buy a Manor

Calle Halfvarsson has more future plans. Among other things, he and his best friend Jonas Osterman are talking about buying Sågmyra Manor and turning it into a hotel and conference facility.

But Halfvarsson acknowledges that the road to a finished hotel is long.

The manor is a bit expensive. There has been a fire inside and there's a lot to do. Moreover, we need to find an investor. But it creates a sense of security to have some backup and fun plans if things go wrong with skiing.

Age: 35.

World Cup debut: March 23, 2009, in Falun.

Lives: Sågmyra outside Falun.

Family: Partner and two children.

Merits: World Championship: two silver and one bronze. World Cup: three individual victories.
