The Director-General of MSB, Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, is leaving prematurely - and becoming the Governor of Gotland.

The Government is now seeking an MSB chief with a military background.

Charlotte Petri Gornitzka will take office as Governor on November 1, which means she will be leaving as Director-General about a year before her appointment expires.

I'm really looking forward to being the Governor of Gotland, says Charlotte Petri Gornitzka.

She emphasizes that Gotland is an important place for Sweden, not least from a total defense perspective.

The more we can utilize an advantage on a site like Gotland, the more we can help Sweden in general and the more we will be a clear deterrent in the Baltic Sea.

Military Background

According to the Minister for Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bohlin (The Moderate Party), the Government is not dissatisfied with Charlotte Petri Gornitzka.

We are very pleased with the work she has put in and we realize that she can continue to drive the total defense work on Gotland in a very forward-looking way, he says.

The reason she gets to leave prematurely is that a puzzle needed to be solved, according to Bohlin. The defense decision in the fall is seen as a "natural breaking point".

We get the opportunity to put a new profile on an incoming Director-General who comes in at the same time as a new Supreme Commander.

He says that the Government is now seeking a Director-General with a background in military defense.

I think it's an important component in trying to get an even more seamless collaboration between the military and civilian defense, says Bohlin.

Becomes Investigator

The Government is also appointing Petri Gornitzka as a special investigator for Swedish supply preparedness. In that role, she will work closely with both the private business sector and public authorities to contribute to "removing obstacles" when the total defense is to be built up again, according to Bohlin.

Charlotte Petri Gornitzka has been the Director-General of the Swedish Agency for Civil Contingency Planning (MSB) since December 2021. She will be succeeding Anders Flanking, whose appointment expires in September, as the Governor of Gotland.
