In large parts of the country, temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees are expected this week. The Met Office is now warning of a fire risk.

The heat has swept across Sweden. The Met Office has issued a statement about high temperatures in Sörmland and north-eastern Götaland, stating that it can lead to "increased strain on the body, which can cause problems, particularly for risk groups".

The statement about high temperatures is primarily aimed at risk groups, such as the elderly and the sick, who are particularly sensitive to heat. Moreover, heat is always a strain, regardless of whether you belong to a risk group or not, says Max Schildt, meteorologist at the Met Office.

From Tuesday, the warm weather is expected to stretch from Jönköping in the south to Örnsköldsvik in the north-east.

In these areas, we can approach temperatures of up to 30 degrees. For the time being, it looks like it will persist until Friday. Then, a change in the weather is expected, with cooler air arriving over the weekend, says Schildt.

The heat has also led the Met Office to warn of a fire risk in north-eastern Götaland, large parts of Svealand, and south-eastern Norrland.

We are dealing with hot and dry weather. This makes it easier for fires to spread, says Schildt.

The warning about fire risk is aimed at the general public, where the risk of fires in forests and fields is high. Above all, one should be cautious when lighting fires outdoors or operating machinery in forestry, where sparks can fly.
