Lending to households increased by 0.9 percent in August compared to the same month last year, according to new figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB).

Mortgage loans accounted for 83 percent of total lending.

According to SCB, the average floating mortgage interest rate for new agreements fell - from 4.54 percent in July to 4.34 percent in August.

"We see a decline in mortgage interest rates for new agreements, which applies to both floating and fixed interest rates for mortgages. Mortgage interest rates for new agreements with maturities over 2 years and longer were in August at a level comparable to the second quarter of 2022," says Irina Wiman, economist at SCB, in a press release.

For loans with binding periods between 1 and 5 years, the interest rate averaged 2.95 percent for new agreements. This can be compared to 4.22 percent in August last year.
