The handball women celebrated their upset victory – 32–28 – thoroughly in the Olympic opener.

But amidst all the joy after the surprising triumph over Norway:

Sofia Hvenfelt injured herself and was forced to break off the match already before halftime.

Hvenfelt injured herself at the score of 15–15 in the first half.

She was bandaged on her right leg and limped out to the locker room.

Olivia Löfqvist is listed as a reserve as a center back and can be called in.

It is uncertain how bad Hvenfelt's injury is.

"She is in pain after the blow and will be examined by the medical team after the match", wrote the national team's press chief Daniel Vandor in a press release.

Vandor had no further information to provide later on.

We'll have to wait for the examination, he says.

Emma Lindqvist, the teammate who was one of the key players when Sweden turned the match around in the second half, hopes for the best.

She gave me a thumbs up and a smile at halftime. I hope it's not something serious. I hope that's what she meant.

She was a bit unsure about what happened, but I have full confidence in the medical team and that they have control, says Lindqvist.
