I wish my and Kamala's mom could see us.

Eight years ago, she was the convention's star and the one predicted to become the USA's first female president. Now, Hillary Clinton is warmly speaking in favor of Kamala Harris. Let us write a new chapter in America's history, she urges to jubilation at the Democrats' convention.

At Hillary Clinton's election watch party in 2016, everything was prepared. When the victory message came, a material similar to glass shards was supposed to rain over the room, to symbolize that she had broken through the ultimate glass ceiling.

But it didn't happen, since the Republicans' Donald Trump surprisingly won.

Moms: Keep going!

The glass ceiling is still a theme when Clinton takes the stage on the first day of the party convention in Chicago.

Nearly 66 million Americans voted (2016) for a future without (glass) ceilings, for our dreams. And afterwards, we didn't give up, says the former Secretary of State.

The crowds that demonstrated and stood up in protest after Trump's victory had their eyes on the future that is now here, she reasons.

I wish my and Kamala's mom could see us. They would have said: Keep going!

Hillary Clinton dedicates most of her speech to praising Kamala Harris and frequently highlights the similarities between them two – such as both starting their lawyer careers by working for vulnerable children. But she also emphasizes Harris' background as a prosecutor and promises that she will restore abortion rights nationally.

Kamala has the character, experience, and vision, she cries out.

"Lock him up"

With a powerful tone, Clinton reminds us that Harris' opponent Trump was indicted on 34 counts.

"Lock him up", the audience chants in response – as Trump's supporters used to do about her during the 2016 election campaign.

Hillary Clinton has also been a New York senator and the First Lady of the USA. On Wednesday, her husband, former President Bill Clinton, will speak at the party convention.
