Injured Ukrainians who have been evacuated to Sweden for medical treatment, along with their relatives, will be able to receive assistance with travel costs if they wish to return home after treatment.

The Government decided on Thursday to expand the Migration Agency's assignment regarding medical evacuations by paying a grant of 3,000 kronor to patients and relatives who wish to travel back to Ukraine.

So far, 1,143 Ukrainian patients have been evacuated to 18 European countries, including 184 to Sweden.

Patients and relatives have so far been able to arrange their return journey through an EU-funded programme, but it is due to be discontinued this summer.

Today's decision enables the important effort of medical evacuations to continue in the same way as it has done so far, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party).
