Abbas Araghchi, a 61-year-old career diplomat who has led the negotiations on the country's nuclear program since 2013, is proposed to become the new foreign minister. He played a central role when the nuclear agreement with Western powers and the USA was signed in 2015, and is considered to be pro-Western.

Farzaneh Sadegh, 48, is proposed as minister responsible for roads and urban development. She will then become the second woman in Iran to hold a ministerial post since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

As interior minister, General Eskandar Momeni, a 60-year-old police chief with a past in the Revolutionary Guard, is proposed. Aziz Nasirzadeh, a general with a past in the air force, is proposed to become the new defense minister.

The parliament will take a stance on the proposed candidates during the week. In July, the president presented the ministerial list to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
