Jakobsson becomes teammates with Asllani

London City Lionesses continue to attract Swedish national team players to the English second division. Striker veteran Sofia Jakobsson has signed a two-year contract, the football club announces on its website.

"I had talks with several clubs, but then I heard about London City's plans and realized that this was a super interesting project and a great opportunity to do something special together as a group," says Jakobsson to London City's website.

Since earlier, two Swedes have been playing for London City: Kosovare Asllani and Julia Roddar.

The club is owned by businesswoman Michele Kang, who has big visions for the team. Asllani has stated that Kang was crucial in her decision to leave Milan and Serie A to play in the second-highest league in England.

She wants to redraw the entire women's football map, said Asllani earlier this summer about her club choice.

Sofia Jakobsson has been playing in American San Diego since 2022, but the other day it was announced that the parties had agreed to terminate the contract so that the 34-year-old could take on "other opportunities abroad".

"I talked to Kosovare and she told me that Michele Kang's plans felt very interesting. What Michele wants to achieve with this team, and with women's football in a broader perspective, is fantastic," says Sofia Jakobsson.

London City started the league season by playing 1–1 against Newcastle. The next match is away against Blackburn on Sunday.
