The Allenby border crossing was closed on Sunday, after an armed truck driver attacked Israeli border guards. Three Israelis were killed before the perpetrator, a Jordanian, was shot dead by Israeli forces.
In a statement from Jordan's Foreign Ministry, the incident is condemned. A two-state solution "is the only way to achieve security and stability for all and to put an end to the spread of violence and an escalating conflict in the region," the statement reads, according to Israeli Haaretz.
The border crossing is used by Palestinians, Israelis, and international tourists. The bridge over the Jordan River also constitutes one of the Middle East's most important trade routes. According to Jordanian authorities, the border will remain closed "until further notice".
Israeli media, however, report that it has been reopened for pedestrians.
Jordan has acted as a mediator in attempts to reach a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. Both the country's foreign minister and King Abdullah II have simultaneously directed sharp criticism against Israel's warfare in the Gaza Strip, as well as against the repeated military raids on the West Bank.
