Pandemonium broke out on the Christian Democrats' election watch when the EU Parliament's figures were presented. "Alice, Alice, Alice", the party's supporters chanted on the spot when it became clear that the KD would get a seat in the EU Parliament.
The celebrations took place at the Clarion Hotel in central Stockholm, despite the party's lower election result than initially predicted by SVT's exit poll.
With almost all 6,275 polling districts counted, the Christian Democrats are on 5.7 per cent. The result gives the party a seat in the EU Parliament, instead of the two seats it won in the previous EU election.
Several party representatives praised the tough start it meant for the party to change its top candidate so close to the election when Sara Skyttedal became a political wild card and Teodorescu Måwe took over the role.
Jakob Forssmed, the Minister of Social Affairs, also sees it as a victory, even if the party, according to the figures, loses a seat.
Teodorescu Måwe, who joined the KD in connection with her appointment in January, says she has gained a taste for politics after many years as a political debater.
She adds that she feels humble to have been given the opportunity to become an MEP.
