Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urges the newly elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian, to ensure that the country is on good terms with countries that have supported Iran in foreign policy.

European countries have behaved badly, according to the Ayatollah.

On Sunday, Pezeshkian formally received clearance from Khamenei to take office as president.

Khamenei took the opportunity to criticize European countries for sanctions against Iran, oil embargoes, and criticism of Iran's human rights record.

European countries have behaved badly, said Khamenei, according to AP.

He urged Masoud Pezeshkian to maintain good relations with neighboring countries, African and Asian countries, and others that support Iran's foreign policy.

The newly elected president and heart surgeon Pezeshkian won the election at the turn of June/July, an election held after the sitting president Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash.

Pezeshkian is often described as a reformist, but would not have been allowed to stand in the election if Khamenei and his circle had said no.
