The Green Party is reporting the Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) to the Constitutional Committee for statements about a trawling ban in the Baltic Sea.

The reason for the report is a press conference held by the two ministers just before the EU election, which dealt with, among other things, how to save the Swedish strömming.

The Government then announced that the trawling limit along the entire Baltic coast would be moved out, from the current four nautical miles to twelve nautical miles, and that bottom trawling in protected marine areas would be prohibited.

However, according to the Green Party, the marine environment bill presented by the Government later lacked concrete proposals.

The Green Party is also critical that the bill itself was not made public in connection with the press conference, but only more than a day later.

Spokesperson Amanda Lind writes in a comment to TT that the announcement generated "extensive positive media coverage" in both Sweden and Europe.

"When we finally get access to the text, we can see that neither the moved trawling limit nor the ban on bottom trawling is included", she writes, and continues:

"Unfortunately, we see a pattern where the Tidö Government claims one thing in climate and environmental issues and then does something entirely different".
