Katie Ledecky won her fourth consecutive Olympic Games gold on 800 meters freestyle when she managed to defeat Ariarne Titmus, Australia, by over a second.

Ledecky's final time was 8.11,04.

It was the American long-distance swimmer's ninth Olympic Games gold in her career and took her up to a shared second place among the most successful athletes in Olympic Games history.

The others who have won nine Olympic Games golds are American swimmer Mark Spitz, former track and field star Carl Lewis, USA, Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, and Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi, writes AP.

First on the list is swimmer Michael Phelps, USA, who won an incredible 23 golds during his Olympic career.

Just Phelps is the only one ahead of Ledecky who has won the same event, 200 meters medley, four Olympic Games in a row.

Katie Ledecky won her first Olympic Games gold on 800 meters freestyle as a 15-year-old in London 2012.

Canadian prodigy Summer McIntosh won her third gold in the Paris Games after winning 200 meters medley.

Her 2.06,56 was 36 hundredths of a second faster than second-place Kate Douglass, USA.

McIntosh has also previously won 400 meters medley and 200 meters butterfly.
