A person has been arrested after the sabotage of the French high-speed trains on Friday, according to police sources for AFP. The person, who belongs to the extreme left, was found at a railway facility in Normandy in northern France at the time of the arrest.

The man's car was found to contain, among other things, keys to facilities and bolt cutters.

According to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, much suggests that left-wing extremists are behind the coordinated sabotage that affected train traffic on the same day as the Olympic Games opened.

We have profiles on several individuals who may have been behind this, Darmanin said to TV channel France 2.

Around 800,000 passengers were affected by cancelled departures and delays following Friday's attacks.

On Monday, the French fibre network was also hit by what is believed to be a coordinated sabotage. Cables in electrical cabinets belonging to telecom operators SFR and Bouygues were cut at least six locations around the country. However, not in Paris, where the Olympic Games are taking place. According to reports, it is mainly the fixed telephone network that has been affected.
