Long video review when Linköping turned around

The Women's Hockey League SDHL has introduced video review – 26 years after the men. In the premiere, it became a nearly seven-minute review. It didn't go Linköping's way, but the team won the premiere against newcomer Skellefteå with 2–1.

It was a giant rescue with the glove of Skellefteå's goalie Camryn Drever on Haruka Toku's shot in the beginning of the second period that led to the video review.

But had Drever picked up the puck before it crossed the goal line?

Referee Fredrik Engert and one of the linesmen looked, looked, and looked.

In the end, after almost seven minutes, they decided that the puck had not crossed the goal line.

"Wonderful feeling"

Instead, defender Sini Karjalainen could shoot 1–0 for Skellefteå – the historic first goal in SDHL.

It was a wonderful feeling. I don't usually score goals, so I'm happy about it, she said to TV4 Play.

Skellefteå played in the top league in 2008, SDHL's predecessor Riksserien, and made a comeback now.

The newcomer made a promising debut, but was still point-less.

The home team turned the game around in the second period after goals by Lindsay Agnew and national team forward Lova Blom and held on in the final period.

Win for the champion team

Champion team Luleå, which has won the gold six years in a row, won on away ground against Djurgården with 3–2.

Finnish star Petra Nieminen scored the match-winning third goal just over five minutes into the third period.

Luleå is not as clear a favorite this season after losing four players to the North American professional league PWHL, Anna Kjellbin, Ronja Savolainen, Daniela Pejsova, and top scorer Noora Tulus.

Last year's finalist Modo won away against gold challenger Frölunda with 2–1. Alexie Guay became the winner in numerical superiority in the third period in front of the highest audience figure of the premiere evening, 1,238 spectators.
