A man is sentenced to 15 years in prison after stabbing South Korea's opposition leader Lee Jae-myung in the neck at the beginning of the year.
The man stabbed Lee Jae-myung, party leader of the Democratic Party (DP), when he approached him to ask for an autograph. According to medical care, the politician would have lost his life if the attacker's knife had hit the carotid artery.
In the interrogation, the man says he wanted to prevent Lee Jae-myung from becoming the country's president ahead of the then-upcoming election. The DP won the parliamentary election in April.
He is convicted of attempted murder and electoral law violations.
