The alarm to SOS Alarm on Wednesday evening led to a large police and ambulance deployment to the Kungsmarken district in Karlskrona. Nine people, most of whom were children or young people, had fallen ill after eating some form of pastry. Two of them were so severely affected that they initially required intensive care.
The incident occurred at a family's home, and some of the family's acquaintances were also present.
The mother of the household was not at home at the time. She received information that the police and ambulance personnel were at her home address, she tells SVT News Blekinge.
I then tried to call my children. But no one answered. I rushed home. I was terrified of what had happened.
"Completely knocked out"
According to the mother, the family and guests had eaten a pancake-like cake.
When I later saw my family, I initially thought they were all dead. They were completely knocked out and asleep, she says to the channel.
The affected family members are now on the road to recovery, but are tired after the incident.
As of Friday morning, it is still unclear what caused the poisoning, says prosecutor Lena-Marie Bergström. Remains of what the poisoned individuals ate have been sent for analysis.
Denies crime
The 20-year-old man who is now suspected of gross assault has not yet undergone a longer interrogation.
He denies, but he has not been heard with a defender yet, says Lena-Marie Bergström.
The prosecutor has not yet formed an opinion on a possible motive.
Not at present. We are working on gathering information now so that we can get as far as I know if I should request him to be detained.
