Månsson 23rd after Olympic Games swimming in the Seine

Tilda Månsson and the other Olympic Games triathletes jumped into the Seine after the water quality was not approved since the weekend. French home hope Cassandre Beaugrand won the race and Månsson became 23rd in her Olympic Games debut.

At 8 am on Wednesday morning, the 20-year-old Swedish Olympic debutante jumped into the dark green and brown river where they swam 1,500 meters in flowing water. Månsson was out of the water as 28th with a swimming time of 24.03 and got on her bike for 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running.

Månsson finished 23rd in her debut with a total time of 1:59:22. French home favorite Cassandre Beaugrand won with a time of 1:54:55. Julie Derron from Switzerland took silver and Beth Potter from Great Britain took bronze.

The Olympic triathlon swimming event in the Seine was carried out after two training sessions, on Sunday and Monday, were cancelled due to poor water quality. On Tuesday, the water quality was not good enough either, which resulted in the organizers having to move the men's event to today, starting at 10:45.

French authorities have spent approximately 16.4 billion kronor over the past ten years to clean up the Seine.

Tilda Månsson is one of many who have been critical of swimming in the Seine, with the risk of athletes getting sick.

I think it's a bit stupid, really. They're basically gambling with the athletes, she said to TT during Sweden's Olympic camp in Eskilstuna.
