The moderate MP Ellen Juntti loses her seat on the Civil Committee, reports Altinget.

Juntti voted against the party leadership in the spring on the issue of the gender identity law, but has since continued her work on the committee – until today.

"As punishment for voting no to changing the legal gender for 16-year-olds, I am leaving the Civil Committee. Sometimes one must make decisions even when one realises they have negative consequences. But I do not regret it!" writes Juntti on the platform X.

"Breaking the Riksdag group's working order and going against the common political stance can have consequences, which it now has for the MP in question. It is therefore not about a differing opinion on the issue, but that the MP did not follow the common rules the Riksdag group has", says The Moderate Party's group leader Mattias Karlsson in a written comment to the newspaper.

Besides Ellen Juntti, the Social Democrat Patrick Björck also chose to go against his party's line on the issue of the gender identity law in the spring. He was shortly after forced to leave his seat on the Tax Committee.

Ellen Juntti is still a substitute on the Justice Committee.
