The number of fatalities in rail traffic increased by 27 people last year compared to 2022, according to statistics from the authorities Trafikanalys.

The number of suicide incidents in rail traffic – rail, tram, and subway – totaled 95 in 2023, which is a nine-person increase compared to 2022.

The total number of fatalities in rail traffic was 103 people in 2023. Most of the fatalities, 86 people, were in suicide incidents.

Even the number of serious accidents in rail traffic increased. Last year, there were 67 serious accidents, which is 20 more than the previous year.

Collisions at intersections were the most common type of accident on the railway, while personal accidents dominated on tram and subway lines.

Looking over time, men make up a larger proportion of the fatalities, both in accidents and suicide.
