The Danish container shipping company AP Møller-Mærsk rises by nearly 5 percent on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The price increase can be explained by the locked situation in the contract negotiations for American dockworkers ahead of a deadline on October 1.
The risk is high that it will end in a port strike in the USA and major disruptions to global supply chains, which is expected to raise freight prices.
Mærsk has already added an extra fee for deliveries to and from certain American ports to take into account costs resulting from a potential "labour market conflict".
According to Mærsk, it only takes a week's port strike in the USA for there to be noticeable consequences – with logistics problems and congestion around terminals – which can take up to six weeks to resolve.
