New film clip about JFK's death up for auction

A recently discovered film recording from the moment when President John F Kennedy was shot to death is now to be sold at auction. The film clip shows how the presidential motorcade speeds up to a maximum towards a hospital after the assassination.

The quality of the short, analog film recording in 8 mm format is very good, according to the auction house that will sell the film at the end of September.

It's fantastic, in color, and you can really see that they're driving at 80 miles per hour (nearly 130 kilometers per hour), says the auction house's CEO Bobby Livingston.

However, the material contains no new details about the assassination of the president in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The photographer has not captured the moment of the shot, or the president's vehicle during the attack – but captures the drama immediately afterwards.

Such images, films, and photographs from the occasion are still being discovered in storage spaces and garages, says Stephen Fagin, curator of The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, where the assassination has been documented. But the material contains no news, according to Fagin.

Lee Harvey Oswald has officially been declared the lone assassin, but the assassination of John F. Kennedy continues to attract speculation.
