Several NATO countries will send several new air defense systems to Ukraine, including four Patriot systems.

US President Joe Biden announced the new arms package when he spoke at the NATO summit in Washington.

Today, I can announce a historic donation of air defense equipment to Ukraine, said Biden.

According to a joint statement published on the White House website, the USA, Germany, and Romania will send additional Patriot systems, while, among others, the Netherlands and other countries will contribute parts that can be assembled into another new battery. Italy will send a system of the SAMP-T type.

Beyond this, the USA and other countries, according to Biden, will deliver dozens of additional air defense systems with accompanying ammunition.

The news is welcomed by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

"This is another significant step after the USA's decision to prioritize Ukraine regarding deliveries of air defense missiles. I thank President Biden for his leadership and all partner countries for their determination to give us access to air defense capabilities as quickly as possible, he writes in a post on X.

Zelenskyj stated earlier this year that Ukraine needed an additional seven Patriot systems to defend itself against Russian attacks on, among other things, the power grid and civilian areas.
