Liverpool won in Anfield premiere

Liverpool's squad is the same as last season - except on the bench. In the home premiere, it was a 2-0 win for new coach Arne Slot. Earlier in the day, Alexander Isak's Newcastle was saved by VAR, and Chelsea humiliated Wolverhampton.

The Dutchman Arne Slot took over the reins in Liverpool after Jürgen Klopp stepped down as coach after last season.

In his home premiere in the Premier League, it was a win against Brentford for 45-year-old Slot's team.

Liverpool took the lead early on when they could counter-attack the visitors – Diogo Jota played forward to Luis Díaz who scored the goal.

Then it took a good hour before Mohamed Salah made it 2–0.

Liverpool, who have not yet made a single new acquisition this summer, now have six points after two rounds. Brentford has three points.

Newcastle rescued by VAR

A late VAR decision saved a point for Alexander Isak and his Newcastle.

Dango Outtara thought he had headed in the winning goal in stoppage time for Bournemouth, but the ball hit his arm and the goal was disallowed after a VAR check.

Thus, the match ended 1–1.

Alexander Isak was active and involved in much, but Newcastle had trouble creating the really sharp chances.

Instead, Marcus Tavernier gave Bournemouth the lead with 1–0 in the 37th minute.

Chelsea's rout

Emil Krafth started the match for Newcastle, but in the somewhat unfamiliar role as centre-back.

Newcastle came back and could equalize through Anthony Gordon in the 76th minute.

Then came the VAR decision that made the home team furious and the visitors breathe a sigh of relief.

Newcastle has four points after two matches.

Chelsea had a goal fest and crushed Wolverhampton away with 6–2.

Noni Madueke scored three goals within 14 minutes in the second half and took Chelsea from 2–2 to 5–2.

Cole Palmer also scored one of the goals for Chelsea.
