"It's a common misconception that a trademark registration can be used to stop a film," says Kristina Linglöf at SF Studios.
On Tuesday, it became known that Brunnberg has been granted the right to the trademark "Dynamit-Harry" – a role played by Björn Gustafsson in the original films. Brunnberg was denied by the Patent and Registration Office last year, but appealed to the Stockholm District Court, which has now given him the right.
Played Vanheden
Ulf Brunnberg played the role of Ragnar Vanheden in eight Jönssonligan films between 1981 and 2000. In the new film, Robert Gustafsson plays the role of Sickan and Jonas Karlsson plays Brunnberg's role as Vanheden. Brunnberg now wants to prevent cinemas from showing the film.
Kristina Linglöf at SF Studios emphasizes to TV4 that they have not yet had time to review or analyze the decision. But she also notes that Dynamit-Harry has been used as a character name in Jönssonligan productions for over 40 years.
"Having a character named 'Dynamit-Harry' in a film is not trademark use and therefore not trademark infringement," she says, explaining that the intention is still to release the film as planned in December.
"There's a problem"
Henrik Dorsin, who played Sickan in Tomas Alfredson's Jönssonligan film from 2020, can to some extent understand Brunnberg's desire. At the same time, popular characters must be allowed to evolve, he believes:
But I think there's a problem. And that is that Dynamit-Harry exists in the Danish Olsenbanden films (which Jönssonligan is based on). And that's weird. Because Vanheden, he could claim is his, since it's a Swedish name. So I don't understand how it works.
There was talk of those who were involved from the beginning making a new Jönssonligan film while Gösta Ekman was alive. That's what I would have liked to see. It's reboots all the time. It's Bert and Sune. And Saltkråkan and new Alfons Åberg films, Jönssonligan and Beck. But all this has been done before. We must find our own Jönssonligan, he says.
