A police officer in Malmö is convicted of gross data intrusion. During working hours, he chatted and arranged a meeting with what he believed to be a 14-year-old boy at a square. At the same time, he carefully examined the location remotely – with the help of the police's surveillance cameras.

He zoomed in the cameras at the square towards the agreed meeting place with the young boy. However, behind the sex chat was not a minor boy, but an adult working to combat sexual offenses against children.

The crime is gross, according to the court, since camera surveillance constitutes an integrity violation for those being filmed. The court views very seriously the use of camera surveillance in this case for a private purpose.

The police officer was also charged with gross misconduct, but he is acquitted of that charge, since his actions were not linked to the exercise of authority.

The man is sentenced to a conditional sentence and 140 day-fines.
