Following a double murder in the Hageby district of Norrköping, the country's first safety zone was established, which, among other things, gives the police increased powers for stop and search.

A week later, nearly 100 people have been stopped and searched.

The greatest effect we can feel at this early stage, without having analysed everything, is that residents and those working in Hageby are very grateful and happy, says Helena Fridén, deputy local police area chief in Norrköping, to NT.

Individuals have, according to Fridén, reacted negatively to being searched. The checks have not led to any weapons seizures, but a drug find.

It was the night of 3 June that two men were found shot dead in a flat in Hageby. A man in his 20s has been remanded in custody suspected of murder. Hageby has, in addition to the double murder, been shaken by several serious violent crimes.

The terms of the safety zone, whose purpose is to increase safety and make it more difficult for criminals to prepare and commit violent crimes, apply until 18 June. As the date approaches, the police will consider an extension.

It's about an infringement of privacy, which we should be restrictive and cautious with, says Helena Fridén to NT.
