Can Tick Bites Make You Sick? While a tick bite itself is not harmful, ticks can transmit bacteria and viruses that can cause illness in humans and animals. How to Remove Ticks If you find a tick on your body, use a pair of fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull upwards with steady, even pressure. Do not twist or jerk the tick, as this can cause mouthparts to break off and remain in the skin. Continue to pull upwards until the tick is removed completely.
