The number of people sleeping on London's streets has reached record levels. New figures have registered 12,000 people living on the capital's streets, which is the highest measured figure to date for a single year.
The figures come from the organization Homeless Link, which also notes that the number of homeless people has increased by 58 percent over the past ten years. 45 percent of the homeless are British citizens, the figures show.
Expensive rental housing is pointed out as a cause of the record number of homeless people. Charitable organizations want the country's government to commit to building many homes for people in vulnerable situations.
The charitable organization Crisis calls the new figures "deeply shameful".
