Aerial bombings, arson, and ground battles between the military and armed rebel groups have damaged at least 174 schools and universities in Myanmar since the military coup in the country in 2021. This is shown by a new report from the organization Centre for Information Resilience (Cir).
Fighting has been ongoing in the country since the military seized power from the democratically elected government three years ago. At least 50,000 people have been killed. The fact that so many schools have been damaged in the conflict has serious consequences for children in the affected areas, according to the report. It is not always possible to determine who is behind the destruction, but it is only Myanmar's military that has access to aircraft capable of carrying out bombings.
