In total, it involves 92 rapes committed by 72 different perpetrators over a period of ten years, according to the police. 51 of the perpetrators have been identified and are also facing trial.
The men are alleged to have assaulted the now 72-year-old woman together with her husband. According to the woman's lawyers, she was so heavily drugged that she was barely conscious during the assaults.
The trial will be terrifying for her, says lawyer Antoine Camus.
The woman is said to have realized what had happened only in 2020. Her husband had then been caught in the act of filming women under their skirts in a shopping center. Subsequently, the police found hundreds of images and videos showing different men assaulting his visibly drug-affected wife. Many of the assaults took place in the couple's home.
According to an expert, the woman was almost in a coma during the rapes.
The trial is expected to continue until December 20.
