Russia claims to have shot down 33 drones over the annexed Crimean Peninsula during the night. The country is also said to have destroyed ten underwater drones, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Ukraine reports that the defense continues in a village in Kherson, where Russia has long claimed control.
The governor of Sevastopol, the main base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on the Crimean Peninsula, said earlier on Thursday that the loud noises heard in the city were related to the Russian army's response to a drone attack.
Two drones were also shot down over the Bryansk region in western Russia.
"There were no fatalities or injuries," writes Governor Alexander Bogomaz on Telegram.
As recently as last month, four people were killed and over 150 injured in a drone attack on the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Russia accuses Ukraine of the deadly attack.
Both sides have extensively used drones throughout the conflict.
Ukrainian defense efforts are still ongoing in the community of Krynky in the southern part of the Kherson region.
Ukraine's defense forces continue to carry out combat missions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, including the Krynky area, says Ukrainian military spokesman Dmytro Lychovij, on state TV.
As early as February, Russia claimed that its forces had driven Ukrainian soldiers out of the village, which was then reportedly under Russian control.
According to Lychovij, Krynky is "completely destroyed" and in ruins, and is now a place where it is practically impossible to hold a defense.
