Russia provided the Houthi movement with data that helped it target Western vessels in the Red Sea. This is written by The Wall Street Journal with reference to sources with insight into the case.

The data provision facilitated the Iran-backed militia's attacks earlier this year, the newspaper writes.

The Houthi movement in Yemen launched its attacks on warships and merchant vessels in the Red Sea as a response to the war in Gaza, and began using Russian data early this year.

The data is said to have been mediated through Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

In March, sources with insight told Bloomberg that Russia and China had entered into an agreement with the Houthi movement on free passage for their vessels. In exchange, Russia and China would politically support the paramilitary Houthis, for example, in the UN Security Council.
